As a developer, you have the option to employ an accredited Self-Lay Organisation (SLO) to complete all mainlaying and service connections on your new development site.
In order to undertake this work, your SLO must be accredited with Lloyds Register under the Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS). Full details can be found at www.lr.org.
The sections below detail the various SLO services we offer from pre-construction enquiry to full mainlaying application plus individual service connections into our existing network.
We have also included a section detailing our Policies, Procedures and Self-Lay Addendum for guidance.
This application form should be used at detailed planning stage if you are intending to use a self-lay organisation (SLO) to design and install your new water main and service connections.
Our written response will be a feasibility study of supplying water to your development, detailing the following information:
A network plan indicating the proposed Point of Connection into our existing main(s);
Details of any re-enforcement required to our network.
Timescale for a full application is 28 days – see the form for more details about where this could change.
This application form should be used if you are using a Self Lay Organisation (SLO) to provide a new water main and service connections under S51A of the Water Industry Act 1991.
Your SLO will be responsible for designing the on-site water main routes for consultation by our Technical Support Engineers prior to work commencing.
Once approved, the SLO will be required to enter into a Self-Lay agreement (Section 51a) with Yorkshire Water, plus pay an associated infrastructure contribution if applicable.
Upon instruction from the SLO following the countersigning of the Agreement (see Request for Work section below), Yorkshire Water will carry out the connection into our existing main and lay the spur main, terminating at the site boundary, if specified by the SLO.
Your SLO will be responsible for installing the new water mains, the individual property services, the water meters and all associated apparatus / infrastructure within the site boundary.
Upon adoption of the self-laid water main, Yorkshire Water will make an Asset Value payment to the SLO (if applicable).
If you wish to proceed with this application, please take some time to familiarise yourself with our Self-Lay Policies and Procedures.
This application form should be used when you are ready for the branch connection installation further to countersigning of the Section 51 Agreement plus payment of the associated infrastructure contribution (if applicable).
We aim to make the connection within 21 calendar days from receipt of your complete Request for work form.
However, where branch installations cannot be completed within 21 days due to Highways restrictions or legislative conditions beyond our control, we will provide an alternative date for the connection within 9 calendar days of receiving a your request for work form.
If you wish to employ a Self-Lay Organisation (SLO) to make a connection into our existing water network, please complete and return the attached form to: SLO_Mailin@yorkshirewater.co.uk
Your application must include the following information:
(a) You must specify proposed the new supply size, EUSR details of the Senior Competent Person and Component Person who will undertake the connection(s), proposed start date and a description of the proposed work;
(b) A site plan indicating your new supply proposals, including your proposed point of connection, location of the meter chamber(s) and any other associated apparatus you wish to install;
(c) Fixtures and Fittings and/or flow rate for the building(s) supplied via the new supply;
Upon receipt of this application, we will raise a consultation with our Technical Support Engineer who will determine whether the SLO has approval for the connection. Details of Contestable / Non-Contestable work can be found within our Self-Lay Addendum and the Self-Laying of water mains and services. A code of practice for England and wales 2nd Edition.
Once we have received feedback from our consultation, we will then be in a position to either approve or reject the proposals. Please note, the SLO must not lay any pipework until the approval / rejection form has been issued by Yorkshire Water.
