Hat-trick of Leeds main replacement schemes to kick off

Yorkshire Water will kick off a hat-trick of water mains replacement schemes at Oakwood, Gipton and Fearnville, Leeds next week to improve resilience and reliability of the area’s network. 

The project to replace over 12.2km of clean water pipes will take place in three areas starting at Amberton Approach, Thorn Terrace and Hollin Park Road. 

The work is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across the region over the next five years.  This includes over 30km of replaced water mains in Leeds in the next year with more to come throughout the rest of the utility’s five-year investment plan. 

Victoria Corbett, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “We’re making a huge investment in the clean water network across the region and Leeds will see a significant upgrade to its pipework. Replacing these mains will improve reliability of the supply of drinking water, reduce leakage and prevent bursts to water mains, to help us deliver the service our customers rightly expect.” 

Contract partners, OCU Group will start work on site on Monday 22 June.  Work will progress from Amberton Approach and Thorn Terrace towards Amberton Street, Amberton Lane and Hollin Park Road.   

The overall project is due to complete at the end of the year and for the safety of residents, road users and colleagues, works will operate under traffic lights. 

Victoria added: “We will be working at pace to complete this important project as quickly as we can and keep disruption to an absolute minimum and thank everyone in the area for their patience.” 

Yorkshire Water will keep in contact with local residents to advise them of progress.
