Yorkshire Water has launched a campaign to celebrate the county’s community heroes.

The company’s staff are categorised as key workers during the Covid-19 pandemic, working around the clock to maintain the water and sewerage networks. Whilst going about their day to day jobs, Yorkshire Water’s key workers have received a number of messages, signs and gifts of appreciation from members of the public wanting to say ‘thank you’. In order to give back to the community and recognise other community heroes, the organisation has a launched a ‘Big Thank You’ campaign, giving the public a chance to nominate friends, colleagues or loved ones that have gone above and beyond to help others in recent weeks.

Nominations open at 8 am on Friday 24 April and can be made via Facebook, Instagram or by emailing communityheroes@yorkshirewater.co.uk. Each week for the next two months four heroes will be chosen to receive a special thank you from the Yorkshire Water team.

Alongside hampers, gifts, and treats, the company will also be making over £2,000 of donations to local charities and organisations on behalf of nominated. Celebrations and donations will be announced on social media every Thursday.

In addition to the Big Thank You campaign, the company is also doing what it can to make people smile on social media – with a series of random acts of kindness. To date, it has sent over 25 small gifts to NHS workers, teachers, customers and staff, all in the name of kindness.

Yorkshire Water’s Director of Customer Experience, Zoe Burns-Shore said: “We really are living in unprecedented times. It has been so heart-warming for us to see the amount of community spirit, not just experienced by our colleagues out and about, but in the wider community too. As a way of saying thank you, we will be sending out more than 150 gifts to community heroes that really deserve to be recognised.

If you know someone that is working hard or going above and beyond to make people smile, make sure you tag them in our social media posts or get in touch via email.”
