Yorkshire Water is investing £2.9 million to replace over 5km of clean water mains in the Dunford Bridge and Carlecotes areas of Barnsley to provide a resilient and robust supply for customers.
Contract partners, Kier Group, are due to start on site on Monday 19 October. Phase one will begin at Windle Edge in Dunford Bridge, starting near the Don View junction, towards the junction of Dunford Road and Brook Hill Lane. This will be operating under temporary traffic lights until mid-December.
Mains replacement at Don View will start concurrently and is due to complete before Christmas. A second phase will see the renewal of clean water mains between Carlecotes and the A616, along Brook Hill Lane and Bents Road.
Aadam Baluch, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “We’re upgrading over 5km of clean water mains in the Carlecotes and Dunford Bridge areas of Barnsley. We’re tackling areas of the network that have previously been prone to bursts and leaks and replacing them with robust, plastic pipes, to help reduce the likelihood of any interruptions to supply in the future.
“Working closely with local highways, the majority of the scheme will be completed under temporary traffic lights, and we’ll keep residents and road users up to date with our progress. We’d like to thank the local community for their patience as we work our way through this important investment programme.”
This project is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to upgrade its clean water mains network by replacing over 1,000km of pipework by 2030. It’s expected to complete by October 2027.
