Work has started on site to replace 3.1km of water mains between Belton and Ealand, near Crowle, to provide a resilient and reliable water supply to customers in the area.
Yorkshire Water is investing £1.2 million to upgrade the network. Replacing the old seven-inch pipework will reduce the risk of future leaks and bursts, and the likelihood of any supply interruptions.
Yorkshire Water’s contract partners, United Infrastructure, began the upgrade on Monday 14 September, starting on the A161 at the junction of King Edward Street and Westgate Road. The team will progress north along the A161 and Woodhouse Road before moving onto Crowle Road.
Rebecca Page, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “This £1.2m upgrade will help us to deliver a better quality and more reliable service to our customers in this area, and we’ll work hard to keep disruption to a minimum.
“The majority of the scheme will be completed under temporary traffic lights, which will move with our team as work progresses. We’ll keep residents and road users up to date with our progress. We’d like to thank the local community for their patience as we work our way through this important investment programme.”
Yorkshire Water is investing £406m in upgrading its clean water mains network by 2030, replacing 1,000km of pipework. It is now over a quarter of the way through the programme, having replaced over 275km of main.
It is part of a wider £8.3billion investment programme to improve vital infrastructure, improve the environment and provide a better service to its customers.
The project is expected to complete in early spring 2027.
