Yorkshire Water is investing £3.6m to replace approximately 9km of clean water mains in the Wharncliffe Side and Brightholmlee area of Sheffield.
Contract partner M Group will carry out the work to replace ageing water mains to improve the resilience and reliability of the network and reduce the likelihood of bursts and interruptions to customers’ water supplies.
Jason Farrar, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “We’re investing £3.6m to replace around 9km of ageing water mains in Wharncliffe Side and Brightholmlee. The area has been identified as a high priority for investment and upgrade because of repeated failures in some locations.
“This significant upgrade of over 9km of clean water mains will help reduce the likelihood of bursts and interruptions to customers’ water supplies in the future and we’re working closely with the highways team to keep disruption to residents and road users to a minimum.
The majority of the work will take place under temporary traffic management and Yorkshire Water is in contact with local residents and businesses to keep them up to date.
The scheme forms part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever investment programme, worth £8.3bn, to improve infrastructure and services for customers across the region. This includes £406m investment to replace over 1,000km of clean water mains across the region between 2025 and 2030.
