Kiveton Park pupils leave their mark on Yorkshire Water mains renewal investment

Children at Kiveton Park Infant School have been given the chance to leave their mark on a major water infrastructure project by signing a new water pipe before it is installed beneath their school grounds. 

Pupils and staff at Kiveton Park Infant School, Kiveton, were invited to put their names and messages on a section of the new water pipe being installed as part of Yorkshire Water’s ongoing investment to renew and improve its drinking water network. 

The section of the pipe is part of more than 4km of new mains installed as part of the ongoing Kiveton and Wales water mains renewal scheme, which will see more than 6km of water mains renewed when complete by the end of 2026.  

As part of the unique school engagement activity, children have been able to see the pipe being prepared and learn more about the work taking place in their local area. The pipe was then installed beneath the ground, creating a lasting connection between the school and the infrastructure, helping to secure the local water supply for years to come. 

The initiative has been delivered by Yorkshire Water alongside its delivery partner Galliford Try. 

Laura Burgin, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “Water infrastructure is something people rarely think about, but there is a huge amount of work happening beneath our feet to make sure our network is reliable for the future. 

“We wanted to bring that work to life for the children at Kiveton Park Infant School and give them the opportunity to see, touch and leave their mark on a piece of the infrastructure being installed in their community." 

The project forms part of Yorkshire Water’s wider investment in its water network. Yorkshire Water has already completed 275km of new water mains since April 2025.

"Throughout the works, the project team will continue to work closely with the local community, keeping residents, businesses and other stakeholders informed as construction progresses." 

The Kiveton Park and Wales scheme is designed to improve the resilience of the local water network, replacing ageing infrastructure, reducing the likelihood of leaks and bursts, and helping to provide a more reliable water supply for customers. 

The project team will continue to work closely with the local community throughout the works, keeping residents and businesses informed as construction progresses.
