£933k mains replacement work starts in Yedingham
5/27/2026
Yorkshire Water has begun a £933k project to replace 2.5km of water mains in the North Yorkshire village of Yedingham.
Replacing the mains will improve reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage, and prevent water main bursts in the area. The work forms part of a wider £406m investment in replacing more than 1,000km of water mains across the region by 2030.
Contract partner OCU Group will be replacing the mains on Main Street and Station Road in the first part of the project.
Victoria Corbett, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “We are undertaking a huge upgrade to our clean water network, having replaced over 170km of mains over the last year as part of our wider £8.3bn investment into our infrastructure and service. By completing this project, we’ll be delivering the quality and reliability of service that our customers expect.”
Local residents have been contacted in regard to any localised disruption. The mains will be installed via directional drilling in which the pipe is installed by drilling from one excavation to another under the road. This means there will be less digging and disruption for the local area.
Yorkshire Water is currently working with OCU Group and the local highways authority to plan the remainder of the programme, and details will be shared as soon as possible.
Victoria added: “We’ll be working quickly and doing everything that we can to keep disruption at a minimum whilst we deliver this important work.”
Yorkshire Water is prioritising poor performing assets that will benefit most from mains renewals - areas prone to disruption, bursts and supply interruptions. In North Yorkshire, so far, schemes have been completed in Grassington, Bedale, Settle, Sutton, Hauxwell to Hunton, and Thirn to Thornton.
