£500k investment upgrade starts at Welton, Elloughton and Brough

Yorkshire Water has started work on a £500k upgrade of over 500m of the underground wastewater network beginning in Welton, before moving on to Elloughton and Brough.

This structural lining work will lower the amount of groundwater infiltration into the wastewater network, improve resilience and reduce the likelihood of future surface water flooding.

Simon Peck, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “Our contract partner, Sapphire Utility Solutions (SUS), starts on site at Hall Walk, Welton this week before moving on to Elloughton and lastly Brough.

“The are relining approximately 500m of lining and also root cutting to prevent root ingress, which can lower the performance of the wastewater network.  This work is part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever environmental investment of £8.3bn between 2025 to 2030 to upgrade our infrastructure and improve our service to customers and the environment.”

Yorkshire Water is in contact with local residents of all three villages to advise them of progress and any local disruption.

Simon continues: “This is one of a number of similar projects in the region to reline areas of our sewer network and deliver targeted improvements across the wastewater network in East Yorkshire.  SUS will be working as quickly as they can to complete this upgrade.  We’d like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience as they carry out this important improvement.”

The upgrade is expected to complete in early September.
