Yorkshire Water is investing £2.5m to replace over 3.9km of water mains in Heckmondwike, to help prevent bursts and provide a robust and reliable clean water supply for customers.

Contract partners, United Infrastructure, will start work on site on Monday 2 November to replace around 3.9km of clean water mains, currently supplying approximately 1,180 properties in the area.

Nichola Fairbairn, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “This is an important upgrade to the local water network. We’re replacing around 3.9km of ageing pipes which are more prone to bursts.  This investment will significantly reduce the likelihood of leaks, bursts and supply interruptions in the future and provide a more reliable service for our customers.

“Together with our contract partners, United Infrastructure, we’re working closely with the local highways team to plan the work carefully and keep disruption to a minimum.  We know this can be frustrating and we’d like to apologise for any inconvenience this improvement work may cause.”

The work is part of £406m investment by Yorkshire Water to replace more than 1,000km of clean water pipes, tackling the most disruptive first to reduce the risk of future bursts.  It is part of the utilities £8.3bn investment in infrastructure and services from 2025 – 2030.

The majority of the work will be undertaken under traffic lights and some temporary road closures and is expected to complete in spring 2027.  Yorkshire Water is contacting customers in the local area to keep them up to date and there will be a community drop in to answer any questions on Monday 2 November, from 3pm to 6pm at Dewsbury Moor Sports Club, where residents will be able to ask the project team about the programme.

Residents and businesses affected by the work can meet the project team, ask questions and find out more about the programme.
