£1.1m mains replacement scheme in Pool underway
7/1/2026
Yorkshire Water is underway with a £1.1m project to replace 2.5km of water mains in the Pool area, to improve reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage, and prevent water main bursts in the area.
The project will see contract partners United Infrastructure replacing aging pipework on Castley Lane, Arthington Lane, and surrounding streets, with durable, flexible pipes. Work has started on Castley Lane, at the junction with the A658, where 1km of the new piping will be installed, and work will begin on Arthington Lane in July.
Nichola Fairbairn, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “We are undertaking a huge 1,000km upgrade of our clean water infrastructure. We’re prioritising mains across Yorkshire that are most prone to leaks and bursts, which can sometimes result in loss of supply for local customers.
“Once we’ve completed the project, we’ll be more able to deliver the quality and reliability of service that our customers rightly expect.”
The work is part of Yorkshire Water’s £8.3bn investment into Yorkshire over the next five years, which includes a £406m investment in replacing more than 1,000km of water mains across the region.
Local residents have been contacted in regard to localised disruption.
Nichola added: “We’ll be working quickly and doing everything that we can to keep disruption to the community to a minimum whilst we deliver this important work – and thank everyone in the area for their patience in advance.”
The scheme is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
