Yorkshire Water is underway with the first phase of a £730,000 project to replace 2.2km of water mains in Grange Moor, in the Kirklees district, to improve the resilience and reliability of the area’s network.

The first phase will see the new main laid on Lilley Lane over the course of three weeks, before the project team moves on to Briestfield Road, Wellfield Avenue, Holme Close, Wellfield Close, Back Lane, Fixby Lane, and the private roads off Briestfield Road and Fixby Lane.

The whole project, which is being carried out by contract partners Galliford Try, is expected to take around eight weeks.

Shaun Chapman, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “Replacing the mains in Grange Moor will improve reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage and prevent water main bursts, helping us to deliver a better service for our customers.

“This scheme forms part of a significant upgrade to our clean water network, which will see us replacing 238km of mains in Yorkshire over the next 12 months.”

The work is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across the region over the next five years.

For the safety of residents, road users, and colleagues, Yorkshire Water will be using two- or multi-way temporary traffic lights around working areas on Lilley Lane, Briestfield Road and Wellfield Avenue. There will also be temporary road closures when work is carried out on Holme Close, Wellfield Close, Back Lane, and Fixby Lane.

Shaun added: “We’ll be working quickly and doing everything that we can to keep disruption to a minimum whilst we deliver this important work. We thank everyone in the area for their patience.”
