Yorkshire Water is underway with a £550,000 project to replace over 1.3km of water mains in Stainland.
Replacing the mains will improve reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage and prevent water main bursts in the area. The work is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across the region over the next five years.
Dave Standish, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “As part of Yorkshire Water’s £8.3bn investment into Yorkshire over the next five years, we are delivering a significant upgrade to our clean water network, which we are kicking off with 238km of mains being replaced in Yorkshire before April 2026. In Calderdale, we will be replacing over 4.3km of mains in the first year of the investment period, with a further 6.1km planned for the second year.
Contract partner, Sapphire Utility Services, is underway with the project, which is expected to complete in November this year.
Work began recently at the junction with Stainland Road and Shaw Lane and will be moving down Shaw Lane and onto private land over the course of the scheme. There will be temporary traffic lights around the working area for the safety of colleagues, residents, and road users.
Dave added: “We’ll be working quickly and doing everything that we can to keep disruption to a minimum whilst we deliver this important work.”
