A lost albino ferret has been rescued from a Yorkshire Water wastewater treatment works where work is being carried out to improve its operation.

A team from contractor Tilbury Douglas found the ferret trapped in a filter chamber and in need of urgent assistance.

The team sprang into action and used spare site materials to make a bridge and help the ferret out of the chamber.

Once rescued, the ferret was given some much-needed food and water and left to rest in a ventilated cardboard box.

The team searched for an appropriate rescue centre to ensure it received the care it needed and a comfortable environment.

Marley’s Ferret Rescue took the stray ferret in and is now giving him the care he needs and will be on the hunt for a forever home soon.

Neil Wharmby, design manager at Tilbury Douglas, said: “I’m immensely satisfied to know that we can make such a difference for a vulnerable creature.”

Yorkshire Water is currently investing £3.3m in its Stockley wastewater treatment works in Chesterfield to improve water quality in the river Doe Lea.
