Our recruitment process

Here at Yorkshire Water, we recruit people into a wide variety of different roles and our application process typically involves an on-line application and an interview.

Brewery Barrels

However, depending on the nature of the role there may be additional stages of the selection process that you need to complete such as a video interview, psychometric tests or a 2nd interview stage.
We believe it’s important for you to be clear about what’s involved so that we both get the most out of the experience. On these pages we’ve provided brief guidance on each of these tools and what they mean.

Interviews

There are various types of interview, these could be face to face or virtual, each with different types of questions.

We focus our approach on your skills, experience, and behaviours, so you'll be asked for specific examples of how you have approached different situations that demonstrate your skills and experience. Each interview will be different due to the variety of roles we recruit into; therefore, preparation is very important.

You will also have the chance to ask us some questions about the role, the culture and work environment at Yorkshire Water or any other area of interest to you.

Presentations

Presentations are sometimes part of our recruitment process and may be used alongside interviews to assess your capability for a role within our company.

Testing

At some point during the recruitment process, you may be invited to complete psychometric or personality tests which are designed to understand your ability, personality, skills, and capabilities.

Assessment Centres

You may be invited to attend an assessment centre, at these events you will be asked to participate in a number of activities these may include an introductory business presentation, site tour, interview, presentation, group exercise, role play, ability or personality test.

The main purpose is to assess your skills and experience in line with other candidates. On the day, come prepared, done your research and you know as much as possible about our business and where your role might fit in.

You are likely to meet a variety of people across the business at these events, we are friendly folk, so please feel free to ask them any questions that you may have about the company.

Pre-Employment Screening

Due to the nature and environment of our work all offers of employment are conditional upon satisfactory completion of our pre-employment checks. These include:

  • checking identity
  • right to work in the UK
  • employment references
  • Basic Disclosure criminal records checks

In addition to the above, all our roles are subject to completion of a medical questionnaire, some operational roles have a requirement to carry out work in confined spaces so the completion of a medical and the relevant training course are essential to being able to carry out these roles.

Other checks may be required depending on the nature of the job for which you have applied, e.g., qualifications or enhanced security checks.
