Yorkshire Water is set to begin work on increased storage capacity in the sewer network off Ring Road Bramley, as it continues major improvements to help improve water quality in Pudsey Beck.

The latest project includes the construction of an additional 5,000 cubic metres of storage within the sewer network, which will improve the performance of storm overflows.

As part of early enabling work for this investment, essential groundwater testing works needs to be carried out off Ring Road Bramley (A6110) near the junction to Spring Valley Estate, which will result in short-term access changes for Spring Valley Estate.

To safely complete the testing, the right turn lane from the A6110 into Spring Valley Crescent/ Spring Valley Estate (northbound) will be temporarily closed between 7.30am and 6:00pm on selected dates in May, with one further closure in the coming months to follow, which will be communicated with local residents and businesses.

The temporary closures will take place on:
•    Tuesday 12th May
•    Wednesday 13th May
•    Tuesday 18th May
•    Wednesday 19th May

During the closures, motorists and cyclists will not be able to access the estate via this turning lane. However, residents and visitors will still be able to access Spring Valley Estate via the access road next to the Morrisons supermarket. The signed diversion is expected to add around three minutes to most journeys.

The work off Ring Road Bramley follows projects at Pudsey Smalewell, Dick Lane and Hough Side.

Justine Pearson, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “This work is about making a long-term difference for Pudsey and the surrounding area by improving water quality and helping to protect local rivers for the future. We’ve already made significant improvements at Pudsey Smalewell and our project at Dick Lane is nearing completion. Additionally, we’ve begun work on a new wetland at Hough Side, Pudsey. All of these investments are focused on improving the health of Pudsey Beck.

“We understand that temporary access changes can be inconvenient, and we’re doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum while this essential work takes place.”

The works forms part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever environmental investment programme and will include the construction of new surface water sewers, underground storage tanks, sustainable drainage systems and nature-based solutions, including a new wetland. Together, these improvements will help support the sewer network, reduce stormwater spills and create cleaner, healthier waterways for the local area.
