£1.2m mains replacement investment starts at Wheatley Hills Doncaster

Yorkshire Water is due to start a £1.2m project to replace approximately 3.5km of clean water pipes at Wheatley Hills, Doncaster, to improve the resilience and reliability of the local network.
The new replacement mains are built to withstand high pressure and temperature variations resulting in fewer bursts, lower leakage and a reduction in water supply disruptions to customers. The project is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to replace over 1,000km of water mains across the region.
Shaun Chapman, project manager, Yorkshire Water, said: “This essential upgrade will provide a robust and reliable clean water network, reducing leakage and the number of bursts and future disruptions.
“Yorkshire Water is targeting poor performing assets that will benefit most from mains renewal as a priority in areas prone to disruption, bursts and supply interruptions. This includes 20 identified schemes to upgrade over 20km of clean infrastructure in Doncaster over the next two years.”
Contract partners Galliford Try and Heffernan Utilities will start on site on Monday 22 September at Ogden Road to renew the clean water network, working towards Thorne Road.
Shaun continues: “We’re working closely with local Highways to keep everyone safe and we’ll have the relevant temporary traffic management in place when it’s required.
“We’re working at pace to complete this important network upgrade and we’ll be working overnight when we reach the Thorne Road retail park, to minimise disruption to the busy junction. We’d like to thank everyone for their patience as we complete this important work.
Yorkshire Water is in contact with local residents to keep them up to date with progress and the whole project is expected to complete in February 2026.
