Boil tap water before use
Latest update, 11am, 04/09/2025.
Earlier this week some of our routine water quality tests showed that the water in parts of Wheldrake didn't meet our usual standards. As a result, we hand delivered boil water advice to some properties. We've been continuing to investigate and carry out work in the area and have been able to rescind the advice to some properties.
Postcodes below are still advised to boil water as a precautionary measure. The additional samples we've taken have started to show improvements and we will rescind the notice for everyone in the area as soon as the samples indicate that it's okay to do so.

As your tap water may be contaminated. You must boil water and allow it to cool before drinking or preparing food. We’re busy getting things back to normal as soon as possible for you. That’s why we’re working with the UK Health Security Agency and the Environmental Health Team at your local authority to give you this advice.
Don’t worry, the risk of becoming ill from your tap water is low, but if you’re worried about your health, please speak to your doctor. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s safe to use your water as normal again but a big thank you for bearing with us for now!
Please take a look at the advice below and share it with your neighbours, if you can!

FAQs:
Will people be reimbursed if they bought bottled water?
As customers were able to consume water after boiling, we will not be providing reimbursements for bottled water at this time.
Will I be compensated?
We’re really sorry and we understand how inconvenient and frustrating the boil order will have been for our customers. At this stage, we won't be offering compensation as customers were still able to consume water after boiling.
What about businesses? Will they be compensated if they had to close?
Compensation will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
I am unwell and live in the area affected, what should I do?
