Boil tap water before use
Latest update: 11am 16/10/25*
Most properties on The Cranbrooks, YO19 6AZ should continue to boil their water until further notice.
There are a handful of properties on The Cranbrooks that are fed from a different part of our system and do not need to boil their water. Those properties have received to let them know.
If you are unsure whether the boil order applies to you, you can request a call back from our team or you can call us on 0345 124 2424.
Why is the boil order in place?
Some of our routine water samples showed that the water in parts of Wheldrake didn’t meet our usual standards. We narrowed the impact down to 37 customers on The Cranbrooks and identified the main pipe there as needing an upgrade. We're on with that work now and making good progress. The work should be complete in the next few weeks.
When will boil order be lifted?
Some samples we have taken in the area still show that the water doesn’t meet our usual standards, and unfortunately we’re not able to lift the boil water advice for everyone yet. Whilst this is precautionary advice, the Drinking Water Inspectorate requires us to have two sets of clear samples before the boil water advice can be lifted.
Once we have replaced the main, we'll take some new samples and lift the boil order advice as soon as we're able to. Customers should continue to follow the below advice until they receive a hand delivered notice advising them otherwise.
What are you doing to fix it?
We are replacing more than 350m of water main in Wheldrake. This long term fix will improve water quality and resilience in the water network.
We're working as quickly as we can to get everything back to normal for all of our customers and appreciate everyone's patience so far.

We’re really sorry and we understand how inconvenient and frustrating the boil order will have been for our customers. At this stage, we won't be offering compensation as customers were still able to consume water after boiling.
