Yorkshire Water will kick start 2026 at pace beginning with a £0.5m project to replace approximately 905m of water mains, starting at Silkstone Crescent, Kettlethorpe, on 5 January.

The work will improve the resilience and reliability of the clean water network in the area and contract partners, Galliford Try, will continue the project that began at Milnthorpe Lane in December, early in the news year.

Shaun Chapman, project manager, said:  We’re keen to carry on this replacement scheme at the beginning of January as this upgrade will help to provide a reliable and robust clean water network for the area.  It will help to reduce the likelihood of future bursts or leakage and minimise disruption to our customers.

Yorkshire Water is contacting local residents and businesses to keep them updated about progress and planned works.

Shaun continues:  “This is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to replace over 1,000km of water mains across the region in the next five years.  We have almost 30km of mains replacement scheduled in the Wakefield and Dewsbury area over the next two years and recently completed projects at Woolley Low Moor Lane and Daw Lane.”

This project is due to complete at the beginning of February 2026.
