Yorkshire Water is investing £1.3m to improve its Hungerhill Lane Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) in Edenthorpe, Doncaster.

The project is part of £22m investment plan to upgrade rising mains, pipes that carry pumped sewage and wastewater, at 66 different sites on the wastewater network, across the county in the next five years.

Contract partner Peter Duffy Ltd (PDL) started initial survey work on Monday 12 January to replace 1.1km of pipework that connects Hungerhill Lane SPS to Sandall Sewage Treatment Works.

Jess Birch, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “The pipe replacement at Hungerhill Lane SPS is one of several upgrades to our wastewater treatment network to improve overall performance and reliability. Rising mains throughout the region will be invested in heavily over the next five years and this is one of the first projects to get underway as part of the £22m investment.

“This will collectively reduce disruptions to our customers and reduce the risk of pollution and the wastewater network backing up and impacting customers nearby.”

Survey work is underway ahead of the works beginning, and Yorkshire Water is in direct contact with customers in the local area to let them know what activity is taking place and when.

Yorkshire Water is delivering its largest ever environmental investment programme of £8.3b across the region over the next five years to upgrade infrastructure and improve services for its customers.
