Yorkshire Water is underway with a £780,000 project replacing 1.8km of clean water mains in Bingley to improve the reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage, and prevent water mains bursts in the area.

The work is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across the region over the next five years.

1.8km of mains will be replaced across Clarendon Road; Heaton Drive; Grange Road; Warren Avenue; Warren Drive; and Cavendish Drive.

The project is one of eight mains replacement schemes either completed, underway, or planned across Bradford in the first 12 months of the five-year programme – totaling 16.1km of replaced pipework. Completed schemes include a £1.5m project in Laisterdyke, a £700,000 project in Oakworth, and a £355,000 scheme in Lower Wyke.

Scott Gammon, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “As part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever investment into its infrastructure, we are delivering a significant upgrade to our clean water network. Since April last year, we have replaced over 170km of pipework across the region.

“This area is prone to leaks and bursts, and so this is a vitally important scheme which will help us to deliver the quality and reliability of service that our customers expect – loss of supply and disruption should be much less likely going forward.”

For the safety of residents, road users, and colleagues, temporary traffic management will be placed around the working areas, which will move as work progresses on each project.

Scott added: “We’ll be working quickly and doing everything that we can to keep disruption to a minimum whilst we deliver this important work.”

Contract partners Sapphire Utility Solutions are expected to complete the Bingley project in October 2026.
