Yorkshire Water has partnered with Citizens Advice York to increase support for customers facing financial difficulties in the area.

The collaboration will enable Yorkshire Water to reach more customers who are struggling to manage their bills in the York area, by working with Citizens Advice York to effectively refer them to a number of support schemes being offered by the utility.

The support schemes available can help to make bills more affordable and some schemes are targeted to reduce debt. Customers in need of additional assistance, not related to bill payments, are also able to sign up to the Priority Services Register

This is the fourth partnership between Yorkshire Water and Citizens Advice, with existing partnerships in Leeds, Bradford and Airedale, and Doncaster. So far, these schemes have resulted in £31.5k of savings and debt reduction for customers.

Claire Gott, community engagement manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “We know that there will be many customers across the region who would benefit from being on our financial support schemes, and our main challenge is making sure they hear about them and know that we are here to help. Our partnerships with Citizens Advice have been invaluable for allowing us to reach more of the people who need that bit of extra support in paying their bills.”

Natalie Wilby, operations and outreach manager at Citizens Advice York, added: "Citizens Advice York is thrilled to have partnered with Yorkshire Water, which will provide us with a more effective way to make sure that our clients are getting the support that they need from such invaluable schemes."
