A major Yorkshire Water project to upgrade more than 6km of clean water mains in the Nostell and Wragby area has reached its halfway point.

A major Yorkshire Water project to upgrade more than 6km of clean water mains in the Nostell and Wragby area has reached its halfway point.

The £2.1m scheme at Bracken Hill (WF4) is part of Yorkshire Water’s wider £406m programme to replace over 1,000km of ageing clean water pipes across the region. This forms a key element of the company’s £8.3bn investment plan to reduce leakage, strengthen essential infrastructure and provide a safe and reliable supply of clean water.

Contract partners, M Group, started work in and around the Nostell Estate area, targeting areas with a history of bursts and supply disruption for customers.  The Bracken Hill element of this work will diver the new main away from the cricket grounds and protecting the pitch.

Jason Farrar, project manager, Yorkshire Water, said:  “This mains replacement will provide a resilient water supply to customers in the Nostell and Wragby area, and reduce the likelihood of bursts in the future.  We are working seven days a week in some areas to clear the works as quickly as we can, including this section at Bracken Hill so that we can complete ahead of a busy cricket season.”

“We have already replaced more than 120km of water mains across the region with more to come over the next four years.”

Work is due to complete in April and Yorkshire Water is in contact with the local community to advise them of any updates and traffic management, as well as areas of seven day working Garmill Lane, Doncaster Road, and Went Lane.
