Yorkshire Water is due to start a £1.2m project to replace almost 2km of water mains at Bennett Lane, Dewsbury, to improve the reliability and resilience of the local network.

The project will see the aging clean water mains replaced with durable, flexible plastic pipework that will improve the reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage and lower the likelihood of main bursts in the future.

Shaun Champman, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “This project is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across the region over the next five years.

“Our contract partners. Galliford Try, will start work at Bennett Lane on Monday 19 January and is one of a number of projects to replace over 30km of clean water main in the WF postcode over the next two years.”

Yorkshire Water is contacting local residents and businesses to keep them updated about progress and planned works.

Yorkshire Water has completed the installation of over 120km of new water mains to provide a more resilient network since April 2025.   The wider mains replacement scheme forms part of Yorkshire Water’s £8.3bn investment into Yorkshire over the next five years.
