£3.6m mains renewal scheme takes shape at Rawmarsh Rotherham
20/03/2026
Yorkshire Water starts work on a £3.8m project to replace over 7.6km of clean water mains in the Ryecroft area of Rawmarsh, Rotherham, this month.
The mains replacement scheme will improve the reliability of drinking water supply and reduce leakage in an area that has been prone to bursts and supply interruptions in the past.
Shaun Chapman, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “This is part of our £406m project to upgrade our clean water infrastructure by replacing over 1,000km of clean water mains across Yorkshire by 2030.
“We’re prioritising poor performing assets and areas that will benefit most from prompt mains replacement. This is Yorkshire Water’s largest ever investment of over £8.3bn to upgrade our infrastructure, network and provide improved service to our customers across the region over the next five years.”
Contract partners, Galliford Try, will start replacing the mains pipework at Dickens Road from 26 March before moving towards Bronte Place and Thackeray Avenue.
Shaun continued: “When complete, this project will significantly reduce the likelihood of bursts, leaks or loss of supply for our customers in the future. Our project partners will be working as quickly as they can to complete the scheme and keep disruption to a minimum. We’d like to thank the local community for their patience whilst we carry out this important upgrade.”
This is a significant improvement scheme and Yorkshire Water is contacting residents to advise them of any traffic management updates. Further work will be carried out at Priestley Avenue, Bennet Close, Coronation Road, Wheatcroft Road within the Rawmarsh district. It is expected to complete in spring 2027.
