Yorkshire Water will begin a £1.5m project to replace 3.6km of water mains in Keighley today (Monday 13th April).

The scheme will improve reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage, and prevent water main bursts in the area. The work is part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across the region over the next five years.

The project starts on Braithewaite Avenue, with mains also set to be replaced on: North Dean Avenue; Bankfield Drive; Whinfield Close; Coronation Way; West Bank Close; West Bank Rise; Hill Top Way; Hill Top Walk; Braithewaite Drive; and Whinfield Avenue.

The project is one of a number of mains replacement schemes currently taking place across Bradford as part of the wider programme. Completed schemes include a £1.5m project in Laisterdyke, a £700,000 project in Oakworth, and a £355,000 scheme in Lower Wyke.

Scott Gammon, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “As part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever investment into its infrastructure, we are delivering a significant upgrade to our clean water network.

“This area in Keighley is prone to leaks and bursts, and so this is a vitally important scheme which will help us to deliver the quality and reliability of service that our customers expect – loss of supply and disruption should be much less likely going forward.”

For the safety of residents, road users, and colleagues, temporary traffic management is in place around the working area, which will move as work progresses.

Scott added: “We’ll be working quickly and doing everything that we can to keep disruption to a minimum whilst we deliver this important work.”

Contract partners Sapphire Utility Solutions are expected to take around a year to complete the project – the latter stages of which are still in planning.
