Mains replacement in Sutton-in-Craven underway

Yorkshire Water has begun a £630,000 scheme to replace 547m of clean water mains in Sutton-in-Craven, to improve the reliability and resilience of the area’s water network.
Contract partners United Living are underway with the project, which will improve the reliability of the drinking water supply, reduce leakage, and prevent water main bursts in the area.
The £630,000 project forms part of Yorkshire Water’s £406m investment to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across Yorkshire over the next five years.
Nichola Fairbairn, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “As part of Yorkshire Water’s largest ever investment, we are delivering a significant upgrade to our clean water network by replacing 238km of mains in Yorkshire over the next 12 months – Sutton-in-Craven is one of the first areas to undergo the works.
“It’s a really important scheme which will help us to deliver the quality and reliability of service that our customers expect – with bursts and loss of supply much less likely.”
The project will be completed in phases and is expected to take around 10 weeks to fully complete. Work is underway on Harper Square, and for the safety of residents, road users, and colleagues, there is a temporary road closure and diversion in place.
Nichola added: “We’ll be working quickly and doing everything that we can to keep disruption to a minimum whilst we deliver this important work.”
