We have been working in partnership with North Yorkshire Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council to encourage everyone to do their bit to help keep our beaches clean and tidy. You might spot signage with some of the following tips whilst you are out and about on Yorkshire’s coastline.
More about the Yorkshire Bathing Water Partnership coming soon.
Simple ways to keep your coast beautiful
Bin your litter
Please help keep Yorkshire's beaches tidy by binning your litter or taking your rubbish home with you. We want the coast to be a place for everyone to enjoy, so please do your bit and use the facilities provided. If you use the public toilets on the coast, please use the bins provided and avoid flushing nappies, sanitary products and wipes.
Don't feed seabirds
Feeding seagulls encourages them into public places where they can cause a nuisance. Seagull poo can get into the sea and affect the bathing water quality. Please put all food waste into the bins provided and avoid feeding seabirds to help keep your coast beautiful.
Recycle your plastics
Please help to protect your coastline by recycling your plastics. Up to 12 million tonnes of plastic waste are dumped into the world's oceans every year. By the year 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans. You can help by avoiding single-use plastics as much as possible and recycling them when you have used them.
We ask dog owners to...
Keep your dog on a lead
If you’re visiting the beach with your canine friend, please keep them on a lead.
Stick to dog-friendly beaches
Some beaches may have seasonal restrictions on dog walking, please respect these and only walk in dog-friendly areas.
Pick up after your dog
There are lots of harmful bacteria in dog poo, please help keep your coast beautiful by picking up after your dogs.
Find dog-friendly beaches
Some beaches may have seasonal restrictions on dog walking, please respect these and only walk in dog-friendly areas. You can check these ahead of your visit to the coast at Scarborough Borough Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
