Elvington Lane road closure

A long section of our water main on Elvington Lane burst and we needed to repair it. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We’re working as quickly as we can to fix the problem and safely reopen the road.

rippling water

Latest - updated 25th January

We have now completed the repair and resurfaced the carriageway and pavement. There's still some work to do on the verges and the farmer’s field, however we can’t do these until the weather improves (likely mid-spring). We'll return later in the year to restore these areas.

What's the problem?

A long section of our water main on Elvington Lane has burst and we need to repair it. The road structure isn’t strong enough to hold traffic while we're fixing it, so we've worked closely with York Council Highways to put a road closure and diversion in place.

How long will the work last?

The new pipe was installed at the start of January and we are now repairing the road - this should take a few more days.

Why's the road closed?

We’ve been working closely with the highways team at York council to create a diversion route that supports the amount of traffic in the area. Unfortunately, we’re unable to open the road to one way traffic because the road structure isn’t strong enough to support traffic while we're working.
