We're investing in our water network in Thorne

Washing apples

Thorne

We’ve started a project to replace around 2.9km of clean water pipes in Thorne.  These pipes are old and prone to bursting and carrying out this work will help reduce the risk of this happening in future.

We’ve liaised with Doncaster Council in the planning of this work, and we’ll be completing the work in phases, you’ll see us in the area until around November 2024 working on the following streets:

  • Plantation Road
  • Fair Tree Walk
  • Orchard Street
  • The Green
  • Finkle Street
  • Horse Fair Green
  • Godfrey Road
  • Bellwood Crescent
  • Lock Lane
  • Ellison Street
  • Fieldside
  • Field Road

Our contract partners United Living and Geraghty’s will be carrying out this work on our behalf and normal working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am until 5pm. To make sure we complete the work on schedule we may need to work over the weekend in some areas.

We’ve agreed the use of the grass verge on the junction of Belmont Terrace and Orchard Street for a temporary compound area for the team.  This area will be restored when our work is finished.

The streets we’re currently working on are…..

Orchard Street

Our work has now started to replace the pipes on a section of Orchard Street from around 28 to Belmont Terrace, this section of the work should take until early April to complete. I’ve enclosed a plan showing where we’ll be working in red, we’ll be using temporary traffic lights to keep everyone safe.

On-street parking may be restricted during the work, but off-street parking will be maintained.

Field Road

From Monday 18th March work will start to replace the water pipe on Field Road, this section of the work should take around 9 weeks to complete.

Work will start on Field Road at the junction with St Nicholas Road ending at the junction with Field Side

To keep everyone safe we’ll need to use temporary traffic lights as our work progresses on the junctions with St Nicholas Street, Darley Road, and Field Side, only one set of lights will be place at a time.

Access for off street parking will be maintained but on street parking may be restricted around our working area.

Bellwood Crescent

From Monday 18th March our work will start to replace the water pipe on Bellwood Crescent, this section of the work should take around 8 weeks to complete.

The plan below shows where our work will start and finish.  Due to the location of the pipe, we’ll have a road closure in place on Bellwood Crescent which will move as work progresses.

Access for residents will be maintained however we may need to ask you to wait while we move machinery to let you pass. We kindly request that journeys through the closure are kept to a minimum during our working hours, this will help us complete the work as quickly as possible.

Access for driveways and garages will be maintained but on street parking will be restricted around our working area.

When we connect the new pipe into our existing network on Brooke Street, we’ll need to use temporary traffic lights while we work in the junctions.
