A safer Swinsty is on its way

We're carrying out essential work that may affect your visit.

Swinsty Reservoir

Why the work?

From November 2020, we're making some important safety improvements to the spillway.

This means we'll be working on the overflow that allows excess water to flow out of the reservoir and down to Lindley Wood reservoir. This upgrade will protect the reservoir embankment from flood erosion and make it even safer.

How long will it last?

We're hoping to finish by late summer 2022.

Can we still visit?

Yes, of course! But things will be a little different...

To keep everyone safe while we're working, we need to close the crest road over the embankment.

Because of the work you won't be able to walk your usual route, you can check out the diversion below.

What's the new route?

While we’re carrying out work at Swinsty the circular walking route around the reservoir will not be available. Some of the paths are closed and we've had to divert the trail around the reservoir using the permissive paths and the road over Fewston embankment.

All dogs need to be kept on their lead.

We’ll update the website with further information when available.

Prefer a circular walk?

Visit Fewston instead! It's more suitable for pushchairs and experienced wheelchair users, just be aware there are short sections with steep gradients!
