In this section, you can find lots more about Yorkshire Water's exciting Graduate Development Programme, and how you can further develop your skills and abilities.
The programme involves an intensive induction period along with a number of practical placements for you to absorb as much knowledge as possible! You'll be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning. So if you spot an opportunity to explore something that interests you, we'll be behind you all the way!
These may involve shadowing team members in their day-to-day role on operational or head office sites, contributing to regulatory deadlines, or working on business-critical projects. These provide you with an understanding of your business area as well as how they inter-relate with the wider group, our customers, our regulator and other water companies. The placements will give you an overview of the areas in which you would like to develop your career. You'll also have ongoing development discussions with your manager.
• A one-week residential induction to give you an overview of the group, introduce you to our values and business objectives and also an opportunity for you to spend time with your sponsoring managers, mentors and to have dinner with the directors.
• Skills-based courses, including project management, influencing, time management, assertiveness, personal impact (how to make a great impact) and performance management. (To learn about how our current graduates have found their development, read their case studies).
• Additional personal development as identified with your manager in your personal development discussions.
• A one-week residential leadership development course in year one.
• A two day development centre in year two with individual feedback and coaching sessions to maximise your progress on the scheme.
• Business learning sessions to raise your awareness of cross-business projects and initiatives.
• Industry events to deepen your understanding of challenges and innovation across the sector.
• Mentoring with a manager in another part of the business to maximise your knowledge and opportunities to network.
• Placements across your business area and across the wider business.
We're operating in an increasingly competitive environment so investment, innovation and ideas are what drive us. Our leaders of the future will be people who embrace change, relish a challenge and look forward with excitement and enthusiasm. If this appeals to you, then our graduate programme is what you're looking for!
We are looking for self-motivated and responsible graduates with a good honours degree, with a minimum 2:2 classification to join our graduate development programme. You must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
We are also looking for graduates that are quick thinking, customer focused, flexible and practical with the ability to problem-solve. As the company continuously transforms itself, we are also seeking people who are resilient and change-orientated.
If the Graduate Development Programme sounds like the ideal opportunity for you, you will firstly need to complete an online application form which is detailed at the bottom of the job advert once you click on the apply button.
If your application form is successful, then you will be contacted by a member of the Recruitment Team to invite you to complete a series of verbal and numerical online tests.
If successful following this stage you will then be invited to take part in a video interview, with the final stage of being invited to a graduate assessment centre. The purpose of this is to give you a feel for what it’s really like to work here on the graduate development programme and for us to find out more about you. You will be introduced to a variety of people from around the business, some of these will be assessing your potential during the event, some could even be your future colleagues.
For all our current graduate opportunities, please take a look at our current vacancies page which will include all the information you need to know about the role along with how you can apply.
We will be attending a number of University Careers Events, so if you are around please come and visit our stand.
Apart from a few ‘goodies’ to take with you, there will be an opportunity to speak to current members of our graduate scheme who will give you an insight in to what it’s like being on the Yorkshire Water Graduate Scheme.
