Final phase of new access road to enter Beverley sewage plant set to begin on Hull Road

From Monday 12th February, the existing traffic lights at the junction of the A1174 and the B1230, just after the Figham roundabout will be replaced with three-way temporary lights for four weeks.

It is being done to help Yorkshire Water finish creating a new, temporary access road off Hull Road to enter Beverley sewage treatment works. The access road is required so construction vehicles can enter the site with minimal disruption to local residents as part of a major £27 million upgrade project which will begin later this year.

Contract partner, Morgan Sindall SWECO, have been working since November from the Beverley sewage works site towards Hull Road and are now ready to create the final new access junction off Hull Road.

To ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible within the four week timeframe, seven day working will be done, with the lights being manned at peak times to reduce localised disruption. In addition, the slip road onto the A1174 from the B1230 will be closed with traffic being diverted to the next roundabout.

Yorkshire Water spokesperson, John Bond said: “We’re aware that this is a busy road, which is why we’ll be working every day and during the school half term week. We’d like to apologise to motorists and cyclists for any additional time to journeys and hope they bear with us whilst we complete this important safety project which will benefit local residents.”

The multi-million pound scheme to modernise Beverley sewage plant involves replacing much of the old equipment and installing new processes to ensure it continues to treat waste water effectively and minimise its impact on the environment. In March, the company will be hosting a public event in the town for interested people to find out more and meet the project team.
