Sheffield residents have been urged to only flush the three Ps - pee, poo and (toilet) paper - after a recent wet wipe blockage in the Gleadless area of the city.

Yorkshire Water’s key workers removed six bags of wet wipes (pictured) from one manhole.

Once the blockage was cleared, the sewer level returned to normal levels, reducing the risk of sewage leaks.

Mark Hammond, head of customer field services at Yorkshire Water, said: “This incident shows the impact flushing other items, such as wet wipes and sanitary products, can have on the network.

“It’s really important people remember to only flush the three Ps – pee, poo and (toilet) paper – and throw other items in the bin to reduce blockages.”
