Yorkshire Water is set to open the east side of the carriageway on Spring Bank West today following the burst pipe earlier in the week.

The major burst caused considerable damage to the road and surrounding area on Monday with fixing this the priority after getting the water back on for local residents.

Unfortunately, due to the damage, for health and safety reasons, a road closure had to be put in place.

One lane is now set to open on the east carriageway, which will open up to two lanes as cars pass the level crossing.

The third lane will remain closed to allow Yorkshire Water’s partner, Morrison Utilities, to continue repairs on the central reserve over this weekend. Lane three will be opened on completion of the central reserve repairs early next week.

Yorkshire Water also aims to have west bound open by Friday, November 8th, after it agreed an alternative construction method to the central highway with Hull Highways department which will reduce working time by four days.

Yorkshire Water Manager of Field Operations, Phil Elbourne said: “The burst caused a huge amount of damage and I would like to praise the work of our teams to isolate the main safely, and get customer supplies back on so quickly, as well as the ongoing work to the carriageway to enable the reopening as soon as possible.

“We certainly understand the frustration which is caused by a road closure and would like to thank residents for their patience.”

Works will be ongoing throughout the weekend and all next week.
