£3.5 million investment in new water mains for Burstwick, Halsham, East End and Rimswell

Our contract partners, Morrison Utility Services (MUS), have been working since March 2017 in and around Burstwick. 9km of water mains will be replaced to increase the security of around 5,400 customers’ water supplies and reduce the risk of bursts. The existing main water pipe that runs along the B1362 was laid in 1977 and is in poor condition. It has burst over 15 times at various locations in recent years.

The existing water pipe runs under the road but in order to reduce disruption, the majority of this new pipeline will be laid in private land and fields. However, we need to work in some roads and traffic management will be used for this so the project can be undertaken safely.

We have laid 3.5km of new water pipe so far (as of October 2017) and the pipeline will run from Burstwick towards Halsham, East End and Rimswell, alongside the B1362.

Please see the above image for a plan showing the route of the new pipeline.

Traffic lights will be in place on North Road for two weeks from Thursday 9th November to allow work to be carried out safely.

We appreciate that this project is causing some disruption in the area at times. When the existing pipe bursts, the area becomes flooded, traffic flow is disrupted and water supplies are interrupted so this £3.2 million investment is essential. Please be assured we'll do our best to keep any disruption to a minimum.

It’s unlikely that MUS or Yorkshire Water colleagues will need access to properties and residents and business owners are being asked to be on their guard against bogus callers while the team is working in the area.

Colleagues from both companies carry identity cards which can be checked by telephoning 0800 1 38 78 78 and they won't mind waiting while their details are verified.
Whilst carrying out the work there may be times when we’ll need to turn off your water supply; you’ll receive a hand delivered card notifying you of the dates and times in advance. We’ll do all we can to keep any interruptions as short as possible.
