Looking after Calderdale’s countryside

Two summer rangers are patrolling Calderdale’s countryside to keep people safe and help manage reservoir sites during the peak visitor season.

Calderdale Council has welcomed Helen Marriott and Phillip King to the temporary roles in its Countryside Service, with the support of Yorkshire Water.

Yorkshire Water invests £1.5m in north Yorkshire peat

Yorkshire Water has invested £1.5m and worked alongside Yorkshire Peat Partnership (YPP) at the Swinton Estate near Masham to improve the quality of Yorkshire’s drinking water.

Peat has been laid down over the uplands of Yorkshire over thousands of years forming vast, wet areas known as blanket bog. Healthy blanket bog helps filter water before it reaches Yorkshire’s reservoirs, but damaged peatlands release particles of organic matter that discolours drinking water and is expensive to remove.

The people have spoken, Ogden Water is Yorkshire’s favourite reservoir

Ogden Water has been crowned Yorkshire’s favourite reservoir after beating off competition from Grimwith and Langsett. 

With 46% of the vote Ogden Water was a clear winner in the Yorkshire Water poll, which was conducted on the firm’s Facebook page. 

The race for second was a tighter affair, with Langsett winning 28% of the vote, and Grimwith third with 26%.
