Record numbers of visitors flock to East Yorkshire to watch wildlife

The number of visits to East Yorkshire nature reserves by wildlife watchers has more than doubled in the last eight years, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust announced. Initial findings from research conducted by Leeds Beckett University also revealed that the value of wildlife watching trips has increased from £9 million to £24 million a year during this time.

Nature and people to benefit from a £2.6 million environmental project in West Yorkshire

Work has started on a two year £2.6 million natural flood management project in West Yorkshire led by the National Trust to help protect homes and nurture wildlife devastated by the Boxing Day floods of 2015.

Yorkshire Water has built a new fish pass at Salterhebble in Calderdale to allow brown trout to swim upstream into Hebble Brook from the River Calder.

Yorkshire Water launches a ‘Blockage Free Challenge’ for areas with most sewer obstructions

Yorkshire Water has launched its 2019 sewer blockages campaign with an eight-foot tall ‘Wipesaur’ dinosaur mascot, challenging residents in areas with the most sewer blockages to try and become ‘blockage free’.

Ice house in city centre to showcase protecting homes from the freezing weather

An ice house has been assembled in Sheffield city centre by Yorkshire Water to help inform people how to protect their home from the freezing temperatures.

The three-metre tall illuminated ice house can be found at Fargate and will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday, featuring its own special pipework so staff can demonstrate to passers-by how to lag and defrost pipes in their own home.

The next phase of Yorkshire Water’s £3 million clean water pipe replacement scheme will begin in early February to lay a section along the northern edge of the Stray.

Yorkshire Water will start work on Monday 7th January on a scheme to lay a new clean water pipe in the vicinity of the Prince of Wales roundabout in Harrogate.

Yorkshire Water invests almost £8m in north Yorkshire treatment sites

Yorkshire Water is starting two schemes of investment worth £7.7m at two wastewater treatment works (WwTW) in north Yorkshire.

The company is spending £5.2m at Thirsk and £2.5m at Bedale Wastewater Treatment Works to improve the quality of water returned to the local water courses, Bedale Beck and Cod Beck, after treatment.
