Yorkshire Water scoops national CSR awardCommunity
Our 36-year partnership with charity WaterAid won a Third Sector Charity Award on Thursday 25th May.
Announced at a ceremony in London, we picked up the accolade for our Big Wish For Ethiopia initiative with WaterAid.
The programme strives to deliver safe water, sanitation and hygiene education to those less fortunate, whilst educating customers / influencing stakeholders on the challenges faced by millions.
Anne Reed, Yorkshire Water’s Lead Adviser – CSR, says: “We are over the moon to have picked up an award for this long-term project. We have supported WaterAid for 36 years and believe that true partnership goes beyond money and fundraising.
“Over the past year, our Big Wish programme has involved 842 colleagues and nearly 2,000 hours of volunteer time.
“We have raised more than £731,000 for WaterAid through a series of innovative initiatives, such as an industry-first text to donate number and a donation for every customer who switched to paying their bill by direct debit.”
Christine Mellor, Water Industry Partnership Manager, WaterAid, says: “We are incredibly proud of our partnership with Yorkshire Water and this award is truly deserved.
“The hard work, innovation and passion shown by Yorkshire Water and its refreshing view that supporting charity should go beyond traditional fundraising have made a remarkable difference to so many lives.
“Yorkshire Water’s approach to embedding advocacy and capacity development is enabling WaterAid to help even more people have access to safe water and sanitation.”
The programme goes further than donations by using our purchasing power to buy vital equipment which has allowed 62,000 more people to be reached with safe, clean water and saved WaterAid approx. £100,000
On 18th May we were also a runner up for the Best International Sustainable Community category at the National CSR Awards to Twinings.
