Investment in our reservoirs
We have many reservoirs around the region that are enjoyed by our customers and we always want these to be of a high standard.
The safety of our reservoirs is of paramount importance to us and we continually work with the Environment Agency to ensure they meet new standards. There are around 2500 reservoirs in England, Wales and Scotland that are covered by The Reservoirs Act 1975 and many of them are in Yorkshire.
The Reservoirs Act 1975, means that we have ultimate responsibility for the safety of our reservoirs.
What are we doing?
Over the next 5 years, we will be investing millions of pounds to improve and enhance our reservoirs. Some of these include popular destinations for walkers, fishermen and cyclists alike, and our work may impact on these facilities. This page will have links to all our sites where we will be working with up-to-date information on our schemes which we hope you find helpful. Investment in our supply reservoirs
There are over 400 supply reservoirs around the region that help us provide our customers with some of the best drinking water in the world.
Our reservoirs vary in size and it's unlikely you will have seen many of them as most are actually buried underground. Many have been in operation between 25 and 100 years and whilst they're regularly maintained, further investment will enable us to further improve the quality of water customers' receive.
What are we doing?
Over the next 5 years, we'll be investing £23 million to create 16 new clean water supply reservoirs across the region. Our engineering specialists Mott MacDonald Bentley will be carrying out the prgramme of work, which starts this month in the village of Adwick Le Street, near Doncaster.
