Investment in Lower Laithes reservoir
We started work in November 2010 at Lower Laithes reservoir.
The scheme is required to comply with the Reservoirs Act 1975 and part of a bigger, £60million programme of work at a number of our reservoirs over the next five years.
What are we doing?
Our reservoirs contractor Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) will be carrying out the improvements in two phases.
Phase 1 - Raising of clay core, modifications to valve tower and wave wall - road closure.
This phase of work is now complete and meant that we had to close the road over the reservoir (Reservoir Road) for six weeks. A diversion was in place and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Phase 2 - Overflow Works
Earlier this year, we started work to replace the existing overflow at the reservoir. This phase will take around 15 months to complete. The work will be located on the downstream face of the embankment, which should not directly impact on the highway.
For safety reasons, we also need to lower the reservoir for this phase of construction for the duration of the scheme.
We'll be updating this page regularly as we progress so why not subscribe and keep up to date.
