Investment at Butterley Reservoir
Proposed safety improvements to one of West Yorkshire's most iconic landmarks are required to ensure we continue to comply with the Reservoirs Act 1975.
The proposals are part of a bigger, £60million programme of work at a number of our reservoirs over the next few years.
What are we doing?
The proposed plans will see the upgrading of the overflow at the reservoir, which plays a vital function in ensuring reservoir safety by passing flood flows in excess of the reservoir storage capacity.
The work is required to ensure that the overflow continues to effectively protect the reservoir embankment from flood erosion by safely diverting excess flows away from the site. Without the overflow, the reservoir embankment would be exposed to flood flows which could erode it and lead to dam failure.
Our reservoirs contractor Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) will be carrying out
the proposed improvements.
Since the customer drop-in we have been working hard to try and ensure customers opinions and views are taken into consideration for the final design. This has included attending the area commitee meetings and arranging a bespoke visit for Marsden residents to visit nearby sites where similar projects have been carried out.
We are still investigating possible solutions and will not be submitting for planning permission until we are certain on the final design. We will continue to keep customers updated on our progress before submitting for planning
We also hope to have the plans on this webpage for you to see and we have put some
FAQ's on here, which we hope you find helpful.
