Micklethwaite

Investment at Stanley An area of Bingley is set to benefit from a £420,000 project which will help reduce the risk of sewer flooding to local homes.

The work started early January and will begin a project in Micklethwaite to install a large underground storage pipe capable of holding around 150,000 litres of storm water during wet weather - roughly the equivalent of 1850 baths full of water.

This storage pipe will hold the water until it's safe to release it back into the local sewer network.

The engineering specialists will also be installing a new sewer overflow in Micklethwaite Lane and laying a new main sewer across farmland which will then be connected to the storage pipe. The whole project will take six months to complete.

In order to ensure the safety of motorists and on-site employees, from 13 February a section of Micklethwaite Lane (outside number 23) will be closed for two weeks and from 27 February, another section of Micklethwaite Lane near the junction with Thornhill Mews will be closed for three weeks. Access for pedestrians and residents will be maintained at all times.

Our £120 million investment over the next five years will enhance our sewer network ensuring it is better able to deal with the increasing flows of waste water which run through it. On top of this, the company will also be installing more pumping stations around the region which help to speed up the sewage treatment process.

The investment will benefit hundreds of customers across the region who might otherwise have been at potential risk from sewer flooding and serve to reduce the likelihood of sewer flooding in the region during storm conditions. The company is contacting local residents to make them aware of the work, why it is being done and the benefits it will bring.
