Reducing the risk of sewer flooding in Hessle
We are planning to reduce the risk of sewer flooding in Hessle. Our contractors Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) will start work during week beginning 6th February in the grassed amenity area between numbers 11 & 21 Barrow Lane.
They will work in this area for approximately 6 months and install a large underground storage tank with a diameter of 10.5m. This storage tank will collect storm water during wet weather and hold it until it's safe for it to be released back into the local sewer network. The site compound and welfare cabins will also be located here.
Closure of Barrow Lane to through traffic from 19th March
A section of sewer in Barrow Lane will be increased in size. MMB will start work in Barrow Lane on 19th March and for safety reasons it will be closed to through traffic, between numbers 4 and 36, for 11 weeks. There will be a diversion route in place.

They will also build a large sewer overflow chamber to underground in Barrow Lane which will act as a weir to divert excess flows into our new storage tank.
The project will be complete by the end of July 2012.
We're sorry for any inconvenience this project may cause. Please bear with us at it will really benefit some of our local customers who have experienced sewer flooding in the past.
