Bishopthorpe
We're investing £2.8m to reduce the risk of sewer flooding in Bishopthorpe.
Work started in January to install a new sewer around Bishopthorpe village. This work will address problems we experienced last year with main sewer that runs through the village which is old and prone to bursting.
Once completed the new permanent diversion route will transport waste water from York to our waste water treatment works at Naburn.
The route of the pipe is from Appleton Road following the line of the York to Selby Cycle Path towards Acaster Bridge, then Northwards through fields to the East of Acaster Lane.

Our contractors Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) are undertaking this work on our behalf. Work will continue until spring 2012 when we will be able to start using the new diversion sewer.
While we're constructing the new sewer we're also continually monitoring the condition of the existing sewer. If we spot any further signs of problems we may undertake further repairs, most likely at night when flows in the sewer are at their lowest.

The majority of the new pipeline has been laid around Bishopthorpe. The remaining section of pipe which runs alongside the York to Selby cycle path will be laid over the next few weeks. The next stage will be to pressure test the new pipeline before connecting it to the existing main sewer. There will then be a final stage of work to reinstate the agricultural land and gardens which have been affected.
