Reducing flooding to homes
Over the next five years, we'll be investing in a £120 million programme of work to upgrade our waste water treatment works and sewer network and further protect homes in the region from sewer flooding.
Over the next five years, improvement work will be undertaken at our sewage treatment sites across the region, where waste water is treated before being returned to local water sources.
What are we doing?
Work from 2010 to 2015 will look to enhance the sewer network ensuring it is better able to deal with the increasing flows of waste water which run through it. On top of this, we will also be installing more pumping stations which force sewage out into the sewer in the road when it would otherwise back up into customer's homes.
The investment will benefit hundreds of customers across the region who might otherwise have been at potential risk from sewer flooding and serve to reduce the likelihood of sewer flooding in the region during storm conditions.
Are You Doing the Dirty?
Putting the wrong things down toilets and sinks can cause problem blockages. Last
year we cleared 18,000 blockages, 37% of which were preventable. Every sewer flooding incident has the potential to cause real damage and devastation to your home. Find out more about our campaign and discover what you can do to reduce the risk of your pipes becoming blocked. -
