East Coast pipeline
We're investing £23m in the creation of a new pipeline that will connect Scarborough and Filey with the Yorkshire Water grid.
The laying of this pipe will connect Irton to our state of the art water treatment works at Haisthorpe, near Bridlington.
The pipeline
The pipeline stretches 30kms from East to North Yorkshire but much of the route crosses agricultural land so disruption is minimal.
Our contractors Laing O'Rourke started work on the pipeline in the spring and expect to be finished by autumn next year. We hope to win approval for our second section, connecting Haisthorpe with our water treatment works at Tophill Low, near Driffield, offering even more flexibility in supply.
To promote our investment in the region, we temporarily etched a 150ft tap into the slopes overlooking the Vale of Pickering and was animated by a group of 50 volunteers who were choreographed to form a drop of water, helping to bring the giant image to life.
The benefits the pipeline will bring is improvement of quality and resilience of water supply and will reduce the risk of loss of service to customers in the future.
