Work description:
In early 2009 we began laying a 30km pipeline from Haisthorpe Water Treatment Works near Bridlington to Irton Water Treatment Works near Scarborough, to connect customers in Scarborough to our Grid network.
This will improve the quality and resilience of our water supply to the area. The majority of this work will be confined within private land, however, customers in the area may notice lengths of blue pipe being stored above ground until it's laid.
We've invested heavily in the Grid network over the past decade and as a result there have been no water usage restrictions since 1996. The system of underground pipes spans the region and allows us to transport water from one area of Yorkshire to another depending on where it is needed most. So whether we are hit with severe rain storms or a blistering hot summer, the grid helps us minimise the risk of Yorkshire's homes and businesses being affected.
