Beware of bogus callers
If an unexpected visitor knocks at your door door there are a few simple steps you can take to make sure they are who they say they are.
What to do!
All our staff wear a uniform and carry photo identity cards which they're happy to show to you. If a caller claims to be from Yorkshire Water, put the chain on the door before opening it and ask to see their identity card and why they're visiting. If you're at all unsure and wish to double check the caller's identity call us before letting them in.
You can also arrange for our employees to use a password when they visit - simply let us know your chosen password and we'll make sure all our employees use it.

Reading your meter
It's common for our meter readers to call at your property without an appointment. If they claim to be a meter reader, please follow the same procedure as above before you allow entry.
If your water meter is located within your property, under the sink for example, then one of our meter readers will need access to read the meter. Our meter readers work in the evenings and at weekends in case you're not in during the day. You should supervise any caller to your home and our meter readers will never be asked to be left alone.
All meter readers carry an identity card and you can check their identity as mentioned above and they'll be happy to wait while you do this.

What to do if the caller works for one of our service partners
We sometimes employ other companies, known as service partners, to complete work on our behalf. The three steps above will apply as all service partner employees will also carry photo identification and will be more than happy to wait until you've checked it.
If you've any doubts at all please ask them to wait outside and call us on
