Partnership Approach To Ensure Dogs ... Don't
Dog owners will have more of an incentive to ensure they clean up after their pets while enjoying walks around one of South Yorkshire's most picturesque reservoir sites.
We've linked up with Barnsley Council to install two dog waste bins at Scout Dike reservoir, near Barnsley, where there have been requests for bins to allow responsible dog-owners to do the decent thing.
We've paid for the installation of the bins, with Barnsley Council agreeing to ensure they are regularly emptied and maintained.
Since December 2008, we've invested over £40,000 in a variety of projects at the site, including the creation of an easy access footpath for wheelchairs and pushchairs and a newley installed footbridge at the top of the site which crosses a small stream feeding into the reservoir.
Scout Dike, which boasts a large reservoir and 16 hectares of grass and scrub land, is renowned for its fishing qualities, with the reservoir regularly restocked throughout the year with brown and rainbow trout by the Barnsley Trout Club. It's also a haven for wildlife, including breeding birds such as little grebe and willow warbler.
And visitors who appreciate the tranquility of South Yorkshire rural areas are being invited to leave a lasting legacy of their enjoyment through the sponsorship of seats and resting points around the site. Benches cost in the region of £530 supplied and fitted.
